The CEFN is proud to celebrate Disability Employment Awareness Month every October.  It is important to us to recognize and celebrate the outstanding inclusive employers and diverse employees that we work with.  We’re proud to celebrate DEAM 2017 by partnering with Alberta Community and Social Services, The City of Calgary, Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion, Calgary Economic Development, Mount Royal University, Bow Valley College, and Picture This Film Festival. ‘DEAM Feature’ – Accessible Airwaves, CJSW (October 3, 2017)


This year we’re calling on the Government of Alberta to issue a formal Provincial Proclamation of October as Disability Employment Awareness Month. In partnership with the Government of Alberta, inclusive employment becomes a priority.  We’re hoping with your help that 2017 is the year the Government of Alberta will issue an official Proclamation of Disability Employment Awareness Month.

DEAM City of Calgary Proclamation

October 2, 2017 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
In partnership with the City of Calgary
City Hall Atrium, 800 Macleod Trail SE

Join us for the official kick-off of DEAM celebrations. This event will feature a formal City of Calgary Proclamation of DEAM from Mayor Naheed Nenshi, and will also include presentations by local inclusive employer SPUD Organic Delivery, and industry experts from the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion.  This event is free and open to the public.

MRU Speaker Series: Why Diversity and Inclusion Matters

DEAM Film Fest

Join us for the Disability Employment Awareness Month Film Fest, a unique one day film festival focusing on employment and people with disabilities. Films will highlight local and international perspectives on this important issue, with opportunities for discussion. This event is free and open to the public.

The Power of Collaboration - DEAM 2017 Webcast

October 18, 2017 9:00am – 10:00am
In partnership with the Government of Alberta Employment First Webcast Series

In this webcast, presenters from the Calgary Employment First Network (CEFN) and Edmonton Pan Disability Connection will discuss their regional and provincial collaborations to build capacity and increase the employment inclusion of Albertans with disabilities. They will also share key findings around effective collaboration to increase impact.  Finally, the presenters will provide information about Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM), showcase past successes and share how service providers can best get involved in the events of DEAM 2017 in October. Tech Talk: Industry Leaders Sharing Technologies and Innovations for Persons with Disabilities at Work

This session will feature industry leaders sharing technologies and innovations for persons with disabilities at work.  In this session you will explore technology used in the workplace to accommodate, a live video cast using Adaptive Technology, and new technological innovations for accessibility.  Community Organizations will also be on hand to demo available adaptive technology.

Inclusive employment wouldn’t be possible without incredible employers who champion diversity. We’re looking for your nominees for the 2017 DEAM Employers. All accepted nominees will be welcomed to our 2017 Employer Awards Gala and featured in DEAM publicity. It’s a great way to ensure inclusive organizations are recognized! Nominations are open to all Calgary businesses and can be submitted below. The Employer Awards Gala is an invite only event.
